Comic-Con 2012

This year at Comic-Con, I was actually a staff member for the Volunteer department, so I didn't have a lot of time to dress up or go to panels. I was also one of the organizers for the big SDCC Lolita Picnic, which meant I had a lot of work to do preceding the convention. On top of that, my sister was visiting from up north! By the time Monday rolled around, I was exhausted but happy--a sign that things went pretty well, I think.

Silly group photo!
Everyone met at the park across the marina from the convention center for snacks and games. My sister was taking photos the whole time, so all the pictures you see (unless otherwise specified) are from her!

Another silly group shot.

I made an outfit just for the event--a Steampunk-inspired Lolita outfit! The waist cincher is fully boned with twelve spiral steel stays and a zipper front, with a matching black and cream toile skirt. The underskirt is a textured pique. I wore it with boots and my husband's googles!

The event was a success, and it seems like everyone really enjoyed themselves. Afterwards, I had to go back to the convention center and work some more, but thankfully it meant being off my feet again! I put gel inserts in my boots, but it was still awful, especially since I walked from the convention center to the park three or four times in the sun!

Being a volunteer for Comic-con is a lot of fun, but a lot of work. Possibly even more fun than being a paying attendee, even if I did miss out on one of the panels I wanted to go to. The picnic was in the middle of the big Hobbit panel--the one big one I wanted to see!--but we had spent too long planning for me to miss it for a panel. Oh well, there's always next year!

  1. I love your Steampunk inspired outfit! That waist cincher is georgeous! I don't know why, but I'm afraid of sewing cincher/corset things >_<'

  2. It was great to meet you at Comic Con! (I was the one in the blue "The Secret of Alice and the Clocktower" JSK with the harlequin socks) There was such great food at the picnic *____* and I really appreciate you and all the other organizer's effort!
